DISMISSAL DURING THE SCHOOL DAY When you wish to have your child leave school before the end of the day, please come in person to the office and sign your child out. Teachers will not release a pupil without office authorization. No child will be sent home unless the contact person who is listed on the emergency card has come to the office and signed the pupil out. Please keep the emergency card updated by calling the office with changes.

PARENT PARKING For the safety of all of our students, please do not double park on Quivas Street or Elk Place at arrival/ dismissal time. PLAYGROUND The playground is supervised daily from 8:30 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. Please do not send children to school prior to that time. To provide a safe environment, children should know the areas in which they are to play and the procedures governing activities. DRESS CODE / UNIFORMS The Denver Board of Education approved our students wearing uniforms. White, purple, grey or black polo shirt and black or khaki pants, shorts or skirts are the standard dress at Remington. Uniforms create an education-focused atmosphere to support high student achievement.
VISITS AND PARENT CONFERENCE Parents are welcome to visit at any time. Please sign in at the office before visiting classrooms. If you wish to confer with a teacher, a message will be given to the teacher to contact you for a convenient time. Parent conferences will be scheduled during the year.
VOLUNTEERING Parents are encouraged to volunteer at Remington. Please contact your child’s teacher and look for volunteer opportunities in the monthly newsletter. You are a valuable part of your child’s education and success in school.
PRESCRIBED MEDICATION ONLY If possible, all medication should be given at home although prescribed medication can be given to a pupil at school. If the child must receive medication during school hours, the following procedure must be followed: a permission form with physician’s name, dosage and time to be given must be signed by a parent and by the physician as well. A note with this information may be sent the first day with the child. All medicine must be distributed from the health office. No employee of Denver Public School shall prescribe or give an unauthorized medication to a pupil. It is an approved procedure in the school for an employee to confiscate pills, tablets or a bottle of medicine from a child until circumstances are known. Cough drops are considered a medication.
MONEY / VALUABLES/TOYS Children should NOT bring large sums of money or valuable articles to school. Radios, skateboards, calculators and cell phones are a few examples. Toys of any type are discouraged at school. Our primary purpose is to educate each child. Toys detract from learning and will be confiscated until retrieved by the child’s parent or guardian.
LOST AND FOUND The area for lost and found items is in the main hallway across from the office. Small items are held inside the office. Children may check the lost and found during the school day with teacher’s permission. It is very important and helpful to have all your child’s personal items marked with hisher name. Items properly marked facilitate quicker return and assist in validating ownership. Parents are asked to use good judgment in letting their children wear expensive jackets which may be lost. Remington School will not be responsible for any lost items.
SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT Please confer with your child’s teacher regarding needed school supplies. At times during the year pupils will take library and textbooks home. Pupils are responsible for such materials and will be fined for lost or damaged materials. EXCURSIONS As a part of our instructional program, teachers plan excursions away from the building. These excursions sometimes require a small admission fee. If a child cannot pay, there is a limited school fund which may be used. Parents are often invited to accompany a class at the teacher’s request. We urge you to participate if your schedule allows. Written notice will be sent home by the teacher. Excursion permits are signed by parents at the time of pupil registration. The form is included in the registration packet.
CHILD ABUSE School personnel are required by state law to follow up on all cases of alleged child abuse. It is not the responsibility of the school to determine whether or not a child’s injury is considered abuse. The Denver Department of Social Services makes this decision. It is the school’s responsibility to report injuries that may be the result of alleged abuse. STORMY DAYS When the weather conditions prevent children from being outside, they will be permitted to enter the Lunchroom at regular supervision time 8:00 a.m. In case of a severe storm, schools will be in session. Closings are announced on radio and TV. Parents are URGED to use their own judgment in sending children to school on bad weather days. Radio station KOA 850 AM will broadcast school closing information.
COLLABORATIVE SCHOOL COMMITTEE (CSC) The CSC is a group of parents, staff, principal, and community members who serve as decision makers to benefit the students at Remington Elementary. Decisions made by the committee ensure equity toward a quality education, monitor student achievement and promote community partnerships. The meetings are open to the public.
PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC) Each Denver Public school providing services to 20 or more English language learners has a parent advisory committee. All parents of English language learners are welcome to express concerns and review the English Language Acquisition program at Remington. Topics such as student assessment, parental involvement, and the rights and responsibilities of parents are discussed.
TELEPHONES Except in extreme emergencies, students are not called to the phone nor are teachers. Phone calls to the classroom disrupt learning. Office staff will take messages, or you may leave a message on the teacher’s voice mail. After 3:30 p.m. the office staff will transfer a call to the classroom for an emergency only.
CONTACTING SCHOOL If you have any concern or are in need of clarification or additional information, please call the school office; 303-433-6461. We encourage you to communicate with us regularly.
HOMEWORK POLICY Homework provides an opportunity to develop good study habits, learn to use time wisely, reinforce skills and concepts, develop personal responsibility, and to use home and community resources. Therefore, as a matter of Remington CSC policy, homework is mandatory. Each teacher will determine an individual homework plan and will communicate this plan to his/ her students and parents.
